about
I grew up in Essen, Ruhrpott, in a non-musician family and started playing drums at 11. I was heavily influenced by rough and extreme rock, metal, and punk music, and I went to a lot of concerts during that time. Without my own drum kit due to living in a rented apartment, I practiced on borrowed kits before rehearsals. After finishing school, I started studying political science but soon decided to quit and focus on music full-time. I studied at the Drummers Institute in Krefeld, followed by ArtEZ in Arnhem and the HfMT in Cologne. During my studies, I discovered jazz, improvised, and experimental music, which opened up new creative paths for me. I found the freedom in this music very appealing and gradually specialized in creative and improvised music.
Today, I’m happy to play in several different projects, including the thrash metal band WARRANT (Düsseldorf), the jazz bands DOG SOUP and 3HoKB, the free jazz group HAARE SCHNEIDEN, my own band VEATS, and the singer-songwriter project Weavers Gallery. I’m also part of the theater collective Tatraum Projekte Schmidt and joined the Cologne improvisation collective IMPAKT in 2024. I composed and produced the EP for my band VEATS entirely on my own, and I’m also working on my solo project, FELLENBLECH.
